GULF HARBOUR POINT QUOTA GROUP
Web Site – “GulfHarbourPQG.com”
1. MFPQG is a group of men formed from the members of Gulf Harbour Golf and Sports Club members. If a Sports member, a Transfer member or a club member’s guest, wishes to play they must pay Gulf Harbour Golf Club the regular fees and adhere to the club rules concerning the number of plays per month. There are two divisions in the MFPQG, the 9 hole division, and the 18 hole division. A guest of a member is welcome to play with the MFPQG. However, guests will not be asked to contribute, nor will they share in the cookie portion of the game. If one team has two or more guests, that team will not participate in the cookie portion of the game. Guests do not have to pay annual dues. Men playing in the MFPQG for the first time, or that did not play in the previous season, are required to meet with the Director of Orientation for a guideline familiarization session prior to playing with the group.
2. MFPQG is organized and run solely by volunteer members. Current Committee members are:
3. The form to join the MFPQG is found on page 3 of this document. Before playing with the group, players are asked to submit $35.00 annual dues, complete the registration form, and submit to the Treasurer. Please complete all appropriate blanks on the registration form.
4. To signup to play any particular Monday or Friday you must signup on line on the Club’s ForeTees web site, http://www1.foretees.com/gulfharbourgcc/, and Click on “Events”. You may sign on either the 9 hole Event tab, or the 18 hole Event tab, not both, on the particular date you want to play”. The first 32 - 18 hole players, and the first 8 - 9 hole players, to sign up will be accepted, then a standby list will be established by the golf shop. You may sign up to play two weeks in advance. You are urged to sign up at least one week prior the day you wish to play to assure that you of playing. However, you must sign up before 12:00 noon three days before the day you wish to play. (Noon Tuesday to play Friday, and noon Friday to play Monday). You will not be able to sign up to play after above that time. If you miss the sign up deadline you will not be assured of playing. Late requests will be placed on the standby list and will be included as slots open, but are not guaranteed that they will be included. Requests to play with specific persons in the group will not be honored; however, guests of a member may play with that member.
5. The 9 hole division has the same provisions as the 18 hole group except the following only applies to the 9 hole division: *Shall only play nine holes; *Play times shall be around 10:00 to 10:30 AM, to finish around 12:00 to 12:30 PM; *The quotas will be established in same manner as 18 holers then divided in half; *The cookies required to play shall be 4 and to be distributed to the winners within the 9 hole division, (1 to the individual winner, and 3 to winning team).
6. The group plays most Monday and Fridays from November through May at Gulf Harbour when the course is open for play. Any gentlemen Gulf Harbour member (Golf & Sports) is welcome to play and become a part of the group. The 9 & 18 hole games are played by USGA rules using a point quota modified Stableford format. Points are earned on each hole as follows: A bogey (1 over par) yields 1 point
Point Quotas for new all members will be established by the committee as follows: The individual’s current 18 hole USGA Gulf Harbour handicap from the tees he signs up to play from is subtracted from 36, that difference is used as your quota. (Example: Handicap of 16 subtracted from 36 establishes a quota of 20). No handicap greater than 30 will be used. To play with the MFPQG a member must have recorded 5 scores in the Gulf Harbour handicap system. However, should a new member wish to play before recording 5 scores, he may play but not participate in the “cookie game”.

7. The team pairings and tee times will be posted on the club’s “ForeTees” website by 12:00 noon one day prior to the day of play (Sunday for Monday play, and Thursday for Friday play). If for any special reason (sickness, etc.) you cannot play, you need to immediately notify the golf shop (433-3015). PLEASE check ForeTees web site each Thursday and Sunday after 12:00 noon, to see if you are listed, or not listed to play in error. If you are, immediately notify the golf shop. “NO SHOWS” cause the MFPQG volunteers, as well as fellow teammates undue hardships, plus you may be charged a penalty according to club policy. After pairings are posted should you have a question concerning pairings, tee times, being left off roster, or are on the roster in error, immediately call the golf shop (433-3015). Your consideration will be appreciated by all!
8. Captains will be the first person listed on the scorecards and postings of play notifications. Captains, teams and tee times are made up by a random draw. A Captain may delegate his position to a team mate if he so desires.
The Captain is in charge of that Team, and is responsible for the following:
9.
10. All 18 hole participants, except twosomes, guests and those mentioned herein, are required to donate 10 cookies daily to play.
Pay out after play for the day is made to the team that exceeds their point quota by the most points as follows:
The other 2 cookies of the 10 are paid out to the individual players as follows:
The announcement of winners is held in the men’s locker room immediately after the last foursome finishes play. A designated representative for the winning team must be present to accept the winner’s cookies. (The designated representative does not have to be from the winning team.) If a designated representative of the winners is not present to claim the winnings at the awards presentation, those cookies shall revert to the MFPQG general fund.
11. Members may either play #1, #2, #3 or #4 tees. When signing up to play on ForeTees they must make that designation. On Mondays and Fridays foursomes will be random and mixed with members playing from the different tees.
12. If a person has been sick, injured or has suffered a disabling condition & wishes to play, they may elect to not use their score to count for individual or team cookie prizes. Therefore, they will not be part of the “cookie game”.

13. Since the game cannot be finalized before all Teams have completed play the committee recommends that all players play READY GOLF. The attached sheet contains tips which will help Captains and players to speed up play. Please read these tips and follow them when playing.

At Gulf Harbour, our optimum “Pace of Play” for 18 holes is approximately 4 hours or less for a foursome. Our goal as players is to be aware of our positioning on the course and how it relates to the players behind your group.
• Each golfer must do their part to maintain their position relative to the group ahead – not behind. In an effort to maintain your position on the course and keep golfers behind from having to wait - play ready golf. Pace of play can be boiled down to two simple phrases: 1. BE PREPARED. 2. BE READY TO PLAY. Not maintaining your position due to slow “Pace of Play” is typically due to bad golf habits that waste time on the course.
• Golf is a thinking game…..While riding to your ball, use the travel time to begin thinking over your next shot, the yardage, the wind direction, which club you'll use, and so on. Begin preparing for your next shot before you get to your ball.
• Each member of a foursome (or any group size) should proceed directly to his or her ball. The group should not travel as a pack, going to first to one ball, then the next, and so on. The first player ready to hit should do so if the player with honors is not ready.
• After teeing off, decide which player will hit their second shot first and drive to that ball first. While the first player prepares to play, the other player drives to their ball, plays their shot, and proceeds to pickup up their partner, who is already walking to his next shot.
• If a player loses a ball - that player should hunt alone for the ball while the rest of the group continues to hit their next shot. If after hitting their next shot, the lost ball player has not found their ball, they may help him hunt for no more than 1 minute.
• Never hold up play because you are in the middle of a conversation. Put the conversation on hold, take your stroke, and then continue the conversation when no one is hitting.
• Leave your clubs, towels, etc., to the side of the green, and in the direction of your cart or the next tee, never in front of the green.
• Another trick to faster play is to hit your shot, get in the cart with club in hand and proceed to your ball for your next shot before putting your club back in the bag.
• On the green, begin lining up your putt and reading the break as soon as you reach the green. When it is your turn to putt, be prepared to step right up and take the stroke. Then, putt continuously until you have holed out, unless another players’ line restricts you from doing so.
• When parking your cart to go to the green always park on the cart path behind the green in a position that gives you the shortest distance to walk to the pin.
• Do not practice putting after you have finished the hole.
• The first player to hole out should pick up the flagstick and be ready to put it back into the hole when everyone is finished putting.
• Please move to the next tee before you mark your scorecard, not by the green so the group behind you will not hit you or have to wait.
• If you feel the 4 hour “Pace of Play” is too fast, then we recommend that you play golf at a time play is lighter (later in the afternoon is best).
• After playing ready golf and using the above tips your group is still lagging behind, then common golf courtesy and etiquette should prevail as follows:
If the group in front of you gets over 1 hole ahead of your group, and if the group behind you has been waiting to hit, use either option 1 or 2 as follows:
1. Allow faster player to play through. To avoid felling “rushed” let the group behind you play through.
2. Pickup, move to the next tee and forfeit that hole.
Practice Good Habits, Play Ready Golf and Enjoy!
